La batalla se desarroll\u00f3 en la Pampa de Quinua o Ayacucho, Per\u00fa, el 9 de diciembre de 1824. Fue dirigida por el General en Jefe Antonio Jos\u00e9 de Sucre, por ordenes del Libertador Presidente Sim\u00f3n Bol\u00edvar. Sucre fue ascendido, luego a Gran Matiscal de Ayacucho, t\u00edtulo con el que se reconoce en su posteridad. La batalla congreg\u00f3 soldados suramericanos de varias partes de la regi\u00f3n, todos de diversas etnias, como pardos, \u00edndigenas y afro.<\/p>\n<p>La victoria de los independentistas supuso la desaparici\u00f3n del contingente militar realista m\u00e1s importante que segu\u00eda en pie, sellando la independencia del Per\u00fa con una capitulaci\u00f3n militar que puso fin al Virreinato del Per\u00fa. No obstante, Espa\u00f1a no renunci\u00f3 formalmente a la soberan\u00eda de sus posesiones continentales americanas hasta 1836.
