En la reuni\u00f3n participaron el Partido Democr\u00e1trico de las Seychelles (Seychelles Democtaric Party, en ingl\u00e9s: SPD) de James Mancham, quien abogaba por una mayor integraci\u00f3n en el Reino Unido, y el Partido Unido del Pueblo de Seychelles (Seychelles People&#8217;s United Party, SPUP, de France-Albert Ren\u00e9), que promov\u00eda la independencia. Las elecciones celebradas en noviembre de 1970 trajeron a las islas una nueva constituci\u00f3n con Mancham como Ministro Principal. En abril de 1974 se celebraron unas nuevas elecciones en las que los dos partidos mayoritarios hicieron campa\u00f1a por la independencia. Tras estas elecciones se iniciaron conversaciones con el Reino Unido. El 29 de junio de 1976 Seychelles logr\u00f3 la independencia pasando a ser una rep\u00fablica independiente dentro de la Commonwealth. James Manchan, quien poco tiempo antes hab\u00eda sido nombrado caballero, se convirti\u00f3 en el primer presidente del pa\u00eds, con Ren\u00e9 como Primer Ministro.
